Do I Need A Website If I Have Instagram?

According to recent studies 75% of consumers reported they judge the credibility of a business based off their website. In 2023, there seems to be this mentality of “I don’t need a website, I have instagram” or “why should I have a website if I use instagram?”. Selling your product or services on anything but a website is more of the “I have a hobby and wish to turn it into a business” demographic. Social media creates exposure, but a professional website builds relationships—and sales. I’ve said it now re-read that again. Still don’t understand? Followers DO NOT equate sales, and this has always been the common misconception during early instagram having influencers. You will NEVER see a legitimate business without a website and it’s because real business owners understand the importance of one and here’s why:

Credibility

We’ve all been to physical businesses with store fronts such as macys, urban outfitters, aesop, sephora, etc. Think of your website as a digital storefront. When you walk into a physical business you visually begin to observe the decor or how they place their products to how the customer service is. You having a professionally done website (a nice store front in this case), with the copyright sets the tone (customer service) for your business. One way to stand out is by having a website that looks good and clearly communicates quality information about your services or products to your consumers. Without a website, people will question your legitimacy as a business, which is exactly what studies have proven. Having a website is an opportunity to make a great first impression and give people comfort that you’re a real business. Not having a website also tells people you haven’t made that leap from hobby to professional. A website is one of the most important investments you could ever make as an upcoming entrepreneur.

Branding

You create your demographic initially by how your branding is. A good example is, If your branding looks high quality; that’s the type of demographic you will attract. Branding is a way to establish who you are, what you have to offer, and the core principles that drove you to create your business. It will help drive traffic to your website and it will be a demographic that fits the same mission or core principles that align with your business. You increase the chances of your customers from buying from you. The amount of income you generate is in the palm of your hands, or should I say in your web design?

Leads

The most important reason to have a website is to generate leads. Social media is not THE tool for generating leads, but exposure. It’s important to use social media while staying on brand, to lure your followers into your website. At the end of the day your goal should always be marketing and luring people to drive traffic to your website. There has been times meta has glitches or been down, and that essentially means a possibility for you to miss out on business. Don’t rely on social media, but utilize it as another tool to drive traffic. Having a website also allows you to accept emails and phone numbers to your clients while also having analytics on your business over all. As a business owner you need to always look at your analytics to problem solve issues when it comes to generating income. Why is this product doing well? and why is that product not doing well? Is your demographic mainly men, or is it women? If its women, you should be targeting women for example. You get where I’m going with this.

A Bad Website Can Ruin Your Potential To Generate More Income

There are so many things that can make a website look unprofessional. It could be the designs inconsistency, typos in the copywrite, the mobile version doesn’t match the desktop version, and more. I have to say that mobile versions to your website are just as important because studies show a large portion of shoppers use their phones as well. People’s attention spans are a lot shorter in this day in age and there is truly a psychology to sales. As someone who worked in the fitness industry for many years before post production and web design, we were taught someone knows if they want to buy from you through the first interaction they have with you. Studies have shown this to be the case with an online presence as well. Color schemes , images, tone in copywriting, and easy navigation all matter with a professional website.
