Last night, Elon Musk has tweeted that he will be rebranding twitter and rename it into something called “X”. He aspires to make Twitter or Twitter “X” more like the famous Chinese app called Wechat, which is known for a combination of social media, instant messaging and payment services. Since Elon Musk has taken over twitter, in about 6 months he has made changes to the apps interface. He also changed twitters algorithm, and discarded moderation rules , while adding a verification process that confirms the identity of users. When Elon Musk decided to take over twitter it was reported the app lost more than 1.3 million users, during the switch of leadership. However, he claims since he has taken over that twitter users have increased by 20%. His plans for Twitter or soon to be called “X” is to make it an everything app, even more than Wechat. Last month, Andrea Conway, a designer at Twitter, posted about the design changes, saying: “We know you hate it. We hate it too. We’re working on making it suck less.” This tweet may indicate this is just the beginning for “X”.

Since Elon has taken over Twitter they these things have changed:

News Feed:

Some changes Elon Musk did to twitter was splitting twitters news feed into two. The feed now has a “for you” section, which mimics Tik Tok. However, ironically he is suing threads claiming it mimicked Twitter. The “For You” newsfeed has made Twitter’s algorithm based off of recommendations , which means pulling in more tweets from people; a user does not follow.

Verification:

Those who paid for check marks would be boosted by Twitter’s recommendation algorithm and be eligible to appear in people’s “For You” newsfeeds. It would basically be the equivalent to purchasing an ad on instagram in a way.

Analytics:

Every tweet now has more metrics or analytics attached. He has added a tally showing how many times a post has been viewed, saying the total number of views can demonstrate a message’s popularity better than its total likes or retweets.
