Earlier today (8/4/2023), Social Media Infuencer Kai Cenat was taken into custody and is considering charges such as “inciting a riot”. Kai is a 21 year old twitch streamer and youtuber ( social media influencer) from the Bronx who has over 6.5 million followers on twitch as well as other social media platforms. Though he has been creating YouTube videos since 2018, Cenat’s social media fame didn’t take off until he launched his Twitch in 2021. The Influencer recently announced today 8/2/23 on twitch that he would be distributing a “huge give away" today at 4pm in Union Square Park. It has been reported that thousands of people gathered at the park around 3pm awaiting Cenat’s arrival. NYPD chief Jeffrey Maddrey, stated there was a point where Civilians were blocking both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

The riot later increased into what the NYPD calls a “Level 4” disaster response, which is known to be the highest level. Earlier the NYPD announced they activated a “Level 2” response while dispatching NYPD to activate crowd control while attempting to clear the area.

Cenat was removed immediately by police for “safety reasons,” according to NYPD. It was also stated that Kai Cenat did not alerted the police to the gathering nor obtained a permit, and it was declared an unlawful assembly by the city.
